Keep Your Garage Roller Door in Working Order with the Following Tips

Roller doors on the garage in your home are very important. Once you have locked them in place, you are certain that your car is safe because a burglar will have a lot of work to do before they can successfully break in. The sad part is that most people often forget the importance of keeping their garage roller doors in good condition, forcing them to pay a lot of money for major repairs or replacement of worn out parts. Since you open and close them nearly every day, it is important to carry out regular maintenance on the door. Here are a few tips that will help you keep them in working condition for a long time.

Listen and Look

There is no way you will identify mechanical problems on the roller door if you do not listen and look. It is the first step towards keeping the roller door in good working condition since you need to diagnose problems early enough for them to be resolved. Look for any jerks that interfere with the smooth movement of the garage roller door as you slide to open or close it. Is the roller door sliding silently in its frame or is it screeching? Screeching means that some movable parts require lubrication. You should locate the source of the sound and apply some grease or oil to reduce the friction. These are the signs that indicate the need for some maintenance of the roller door.

Change the Rollers

The roller door on your garage moves up and down along a metallic frame set on two set parallel ends. Rollers guide the whole door smoothly through the frame every time you open or close it. This means that they are subjected to a lot of friction on a regular basis. Therefore, you need to check them often to see if they are worn out and in need of replacement. If you are using too much energy to move the garage roller door up and down, even after lubrication, then the rollers may be worn out and causing a lot of friction between them and the frame.

Clean the Tracks on the Frame

The tracks followed by the rollers on the frames of the roller door should be cleaned regularly. Remove any small particles and debris stuck in the tracks to enable the door to slide smoothly into position whenever you close or open it. If you fail to clean, the debris will increase the friction between the rollers and the frame, making them wear down more rapidly.

For assistance, talk to a roller door service.
